Sav Day 5

Day 5 of 31. Supporting 31 local businesses in 31 days.

When the Pandemic hit and New York State went on lockdown back in March I had to revamp what work meant to me. I was teaching in three different counties at the time, at five different places. I love teaching, so it was enjoyable to bounce from place to place, creating new relationships at each one. But needless to say when everything went online, I had to adapt. I taught a handful of classes for studios, which I was so grateful for because I was able to stay connected to all those relationships. But basically overnight I decided to start my own business.

Figuring out how to stream classes, cultivate a website, think of product, make videos, and teach 5/6 days a week 2-5 times a day! I either had to adapt, or I was going to be phased out. I have said it before, and I will say it again, the only constant in life is change. But, I love owning and growing my own small business, like seriously love it. The feeling of being able to execute new ideas on my time frame is empowering.

On a day like today (Monday morning) in a new place, I am grateful to be working for myself. It is interesting to see the changes the happen when you approach things with a grateful heart and mind, especially for work. After morning classes and clients, I made a few videos to add to my on demand channel, did a tiny bit more unpacking, and then headed to find today’s local business. Which brought me to a Yerba mate cafe, Mate Factor. If you aren’t familiar with Yerba mate, it is a plant whose leaves can be turned into a tea. The best way to describe the benefits comes from Google:

“Yerba mate tea contains antioxidants and minerals that have shown potential when it comes to fighting chronic disease such as heart disease and cancer. Like many teas, yerba mate has polyphenols that help fight disease, xanthines that provide an energy boost, and saponins, which help protect heart health.”

I think the South gets a bad rep in terms of health, but Savannah in particular tends to be a pretty health conscious city, and at the very least has some great options. This funky little spot was right up my alley. I mean check out this menu:

I got myself a Mayan Mocha and a sweet potato poundcake (see the picture below). I cannot wait to take my fiancé back so we can group share some treats (with Covid even just typing group share I shudder a little). It really was such a gem. Tucked away a few blocks from Forsyth Park you walk the Spanish Moss and Palm Tree filled roads. I know I just called it a gem, but I have to reiterate how sweet it was. Even a little outdoor patio take a look for yourself:

And this is my walk here, right through the park. Photos truly do not do this place justice.

Thank you for tuning in, I appreciate you!
