Getting To Know Savannah, Day 1 -October 1st

Well day one-ish, I have been here since Saturday, but October 1st started my 31 day venture of supporting local businesses. A different business everyday for 31 days. This is my way to not only get to know Savannah better, but to begin to understand the local vendors and, on a small scale. give back the community. If you know me personally, I have been pretty outspoken about shopping within the area I live, especially after the Pandemic hit. Not to sound like a broken record, but if we want to see our communities thrive think about heading to a locally owned place.

And since I am being honest, it is also a way for me to meet new people. I absolutely loved being in New York, my family, friends, and clients are people I connected to on a daily basis. Now that I am away from them I crave that sense of community. For so many, these times of isolation are scary. As a human being, specifically an American, I crave being seen, heard, and acknowledged, I believe we all share that in some capacity. So to wrap back around here, I miss my people, and I look forward to cultivating new relationships, I know that my local business adventures will help me find what I am seeking. Hey, have to put it out there right? Manifest y’all!

Quick note, my ROCKSTAR of a fiancé has been amazing, not only has he started a new job, but he has helped me move across the country with my two cats, and done it all with a smile. After nearly three years of long distance my heart finally feels like it is at home. Being in a relationship with someone whose job requires his level of dedication has taught me a new sense of patience and independence. Which is course brings me back to this venture.

So let’s get to it! Business number one: Brighter Day Natural Foods Market. Groceries have been scarce in our house so finding this independent, locally owned market, which was referred to me by a friend, had to be the go to for day number one. Added plus, its a 4 minute walk from my apartment. Fun fact: I sold my car! Now I am on foot, well at least until I get myself a bicycle. So here I am getting to know this city step by step. Grateful I got here in the fall, I don’t mind walking about on these beautiful, sunny, mid 70 degree days.

Brighter Day is a small grocery store in which I can find all the funky products that don’t exist in "“insert stereotypical big box chain name”. Their 8 or so aisles consist of natural products, organic produce, vitamins and supplements, loose leaf tea, vegan and vegetarian options, frozen meat. cheeses, bulk bins, snacks and so on, The basics of a typical grocery store, but jazzed up a bit for the more natural life. They have a smell deli counter inside, and take out counter outside, in which you can order smoothies, sandwiches, salads, and other items. They even have pre-made items to pick from, which I am sure become even more popular in Covid times. I personally ordered a peach, hibiscus, ginger smoothie which you can see below.

I am thrilled such a sweet spot so close. I was even able to head to Forsyth Park right after shopping, I did a quick 20 minute flow, caught a little sun, and sipped my smoothie before heading home. Someone pinch me, is this real life? Looking forward to day two.
